Some Reasons Why Air Conditioner Leaking Water

Removing moisture from the room and provide a comfortable temperature to a home or business is the primary role of an AC unit.

A great deal of water will be created during the cooling process and it depends on certain factors such as the humidity in the air, size of the unit, the operating efficiency and the installation set up. If the AC is working properly there will be a steady processing of the water inside the unit to cool the heating coils. However, if the building feels an uneven cool, then there may be the problem of leakage in the AC. The following are the most common issues that can cause a leak in air conditioners.

The air conditioner is not properly installed

Air conditioners must be properly placed in a way that allows the water to be removed from air from the back of the machine properly. Any difference, even a single inch can make an impact in the performance of the unit. Many AC’s are installed in order to get immediate relief from the heat. The AC must be installed slightly low at the back if it is installed too low at the back, the water will roll out of the front edges and onto the floor inside the building.

Air leakage from the air conditioner

If the hot air enters around the AC, it will meet up with cooler air and dryer. This creates condensation. If you notice that the water is being dripped from the body, you can be sure that there is leakage in the unit. If you notice small droplets there, you have an air leakage problem. You can add foam insulation to stop the warm air from infiltrating the AC and causing water leaks.

Freezing coils in an air conditioner

Water that is dehumidified will turn to ice if the air conditioner has a problem with its cooling system. Several things could cause the machine to freeze up. Check the cooling coil by removing the front grille while the air conditioner is on. If ice is on the cooling coil, you should have the air conditioner serviced.

Drain holes in an air conditioner are blocked

The back of the AC base contains a drain hole that allows for the water passage. If the hole is blocked the water will back up. If you want to know if there is a blockage in the hole, let the unit run for a few minutes and check if it is draining properly. If the drain appears to be blocked, use a small piece of wood to open it at the rear of the base.

Cold temperatures outside the air conditioner

The AC unity may not work properly during the cooling season. There might be a chance that the cooling coil can ice up during the extreme cooling temperature. If there is no leakage at night, but you notice it in the morning, it is likely this problem.
